PCBL Limited's key businesses include manufacturing carbon black and specialty chemicals. They are the largest carbon black manufacturer in India and have a significant global presence.


Where are PCBL's Manufacturing Plants Located?

PCBL has five state-of-the-art manufacturing plants located in Durgapur (West Bengal), Palej (Gujarat), Mundra (Gujarat), Kochi (Kerala), and Chennai (Tamil Nadu).


How is Carbon Black Manufactured?

  • Feedstock oil from refineries is used as raw material.
    ‍
  • It is introduced into a hot gas stream, created by burning  secondary feedstock oil.
    ‍
  • In a closed reactor, the feedstock oil is atomised and vaporised under controlled temperature and pressure.
    ‍
  • The oil undergoes pyrolysis (thermal decomposition) to form  microscopic carbon particles.
    ‍
  • The reaction rate is controlled by steam or water sprays.
    ‍
  • The carbon black produced is cooled and collected in bag filters.
    ‍
  • Residual gas from the reactor is used to produce electricity.
    ‍
  • The carbon black is further processed, pelletized, screened, and packaged for shipment.‍

    Green Power From Waste Gas

    PCBL's captive power plant recovers thermal energy from waste gas produced during carbon black manufacturing.

    This gas generates steam, which is then converted into electrical energy.

    PCBL generates 122 MW of green power using this byproduct gas.

    PCBL's Current Production Capacity

    PCBL has a current production capacity of 7,90,000MT per annum.

    In the last three years, PCBL has amplified its production capacity by approximately 35%.

    ‍New Product Devlopment

    PCBL has two R&D centres: Sushila Goenka Research & Development Centre in Palej, Gujarat, and Sushila Goenka Innovation Centre in Ghislenghien, Belgium.

    Researchers at these centres are continuously developing specialised grades of rubber black and specialty chemicals.

    PCBL has a significant customer base in over 50 countries.

    Significant Acquisition

    PCBL signed a Rs 3,800 crore deal to acquire Aquapharm Chemicals Private Limited (ACPL), a globally acclaimed specialty chemicals company.

    This acquisition marks PCBL's entry into the global water treatment and oil & gas chemical segments, diversifying its specialty chemical portfolio.

    Recent Joint Venture

    PCBL has partnered with Australian nanotechnology firm, Kinaltek, to develop materials for eco-friendly, efficient batteries.

    This joint venture supports affordable, sustainable electric vehicles.

    It aligns with PCBL's vision to diversify its product offerings and develop sustainable solutions beyond carbon molecules.
